Sacramento County Young Democrats (SCYD) President Samantha Farmer issued the following statement after last night’s election results.

“Young Democrats in Sacramento and across California once again provided a blue wall against a national Republican tide. Members of Sacramento County Young Democrats hit the pavement and worked the phones to turnout Democratic voters for races and causes up and down the ballot. Our efforts aided a Democratic sweep of statewide offices and victories for several progressive candidates in Sacramento County.”

“Last night’s results, both locally and nationally, prove how vital it is to turnout young Democratic voters. We are the margin of victory. Our organization remains committed to engaging in the peer-to-peer outreach necessary to propel more progressive Democrats to victory and make sure our voices are heard on the issues that matter to us. Today is a time to reflect and celebrate, and to renew our resolve to improve California and the country by electing candidates that will fight for affordable healthcare, greater access to public education, and fair wages for all.”

The following SCYD endorsed candidates and measures were victorious last night:

  • The Democratic slate for statewide office
  • Kevin McCarty for State Assembly District 7
  • Ken Cooley for State Assembly District 8
  • No on Measure L – Sacramento
  • Jay Hansen for Sacramento City Unified School Board
  • Lisa Kaplan and Teri Burns for Natomas School Board
