Sacramento County Young Democrats Statement on 2014 Election

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Contact:
Sam Mahood, SCYD Communications Director
Press.SCYD@gmail.com

Sacramento County Young Democrats (SCYD) President Samantha Farmer issued the following statement after last night’s election results.

“Young Democrats in Sacramento and across California once again provided a blue wall against a national Republican tide. Members of Sacramento County Young Democrats hit the pavement and worked the phones to turnout Democratic voters for races and causes up and down the ballot. Our efforts aided a Democratic sweep of statewide offices and victories for several progressive candidates in Sacramento County.”

“Last night’s results, both locally and nationally, prove how vital it is to turnout young Democratic voters. We are the margin of victory. Our organization remains committed to engaging in the peer-to-peer outreach necessary to propel more progressive Democrats to victory and make sure our voices are heard on the issues that matter to us. Today is a time to reflect and celebrate, and to renew our resolve to improve California and the country by electing candidates that will fight for affordable healthcare, greater access to public education, and fair wages for all.”

The following SCYD endorsed candidates and measures were victorious last night:

  • The Democratic slate for statewide office
  • Kevin McCarty for State Assembly District 7
  • Ken Cooley for State Assembly District 8
  • No on Measure L – Sacramento
  • Jay Hansen for Sacramento City Unified School Board
  • Lisa Kaplan and Teri Burns for Natomas School Board

Online Contest: #SCYDatWork

Calling all Young Dems!

At our September Membership Meeting, we officially launched an online contest we are hosting this month: #SCYDatWork.

Our members are not active in just our club…we know you all have impressive jobs and do important volunteer work, just to name a few things! So we want you to share that! All month, post your pictures to Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram using the hashtag #SCYDatWork to show us what you’re doing out there in the community or at your workplace! We will be actively retweeting all your entries and posting them on this page, so check the hashtag and check out our Twitter and Instagram feeds at @sacyoungdems frequently!

To sweeten the deal, the SCYD Communications Committee will be picking a winner, who will be announced at our October Membership Meeting on October 1st. That winner will receive a $50 gift card to the Downtown/Midtown restaurant of their choice!

So get to it and start posting your pictures!

scyd logo final

Bring your pets and your pet food donation to a picnic hosted by SCYD and the University of San Francisco McCarthy Fellows!

Join us at Fremont Park on Monday, June 23 at 5:30pm. What better way to start the week than to meet new people and spend time with friends at a picnic in the park? We will provide picnic snacks, and encourage anyone who has games to bring them! Frisbees, cornhole, any other sort of game you can play in a park are welcome!

That’s not all! You’re also welcome to bring your favorite furry friend, as we will be accepting donations for the Sacramento Pet Food Bank! The Pet Food Bank is in greatest need of CAT FOOD right now. However, they accept donations of dry or canned cat OR dog food, cat litter, collars and leashes, bedding, or any other pet supplies.

For more information about the Sacramento Pet Food Bank, visit their website at: http://www.sacpetfoodbank.org/

The Fremont Park location makes it convenient for us to eventually move to Simon’s, Uncle Vito’s, or anywhere else should you want to join us for a post-picnic drink!
